THE LAST TIME I WENT ON VACATION I VISITED LAKE RANCO
This will be a more personal post! So far I have been writing informational
posts in both English and Spanish, for bloggers who want to practice their language
skills.
This time, I’m writing for myself!
The Ranco Lake is the second largest lake in Chile,
and it is so beautiful!
It has just about everything, hot thermal baths on the
east coast, an important river flowing out on the more western side, several mountain
rivers flowing in from the Andes
mountains, sublime scenery and wonderful trout and salmon fishing!
The lake is big enough to contain several small
islands, one of which is a reservation for an indigenous community. Small
steamers cross this lake at regular schedules. All in all, it is a sensational
place to visit!
Many of my childhood memories involve this area; while
living in the town of Osorno, I used to visit there constantly. I learnt to
fish there and caught my first salmon, and I also learnt to row the big flat
bottomed fishing boats.
The Ranco Lake represents some of the happiest moments
of my life, and has provided memories that will never fade. This becomes more
and more important as time passes, as I have now reached a moment in my
timeline, in which I can no longer travel and move around like I used to.
A blessing on this beautiful area! May it ever survive all catastrophes,
earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and even all types of predictions about the end
of the World!

ReplyDeleteHi TT, I wish I could personally show you round the best spots on this lake! I have swum it, navigated it and rowed it! Also fished it and walked the coasts! I remember every rock, cave and beach! The only thing I never did was go down the rapids where the Bueno River flows out! Didn't get permission! You would love it!

I of course think that everybody should visit my special Lake, but it's pretty far away for most of you, I think! Stil, one can dream, right? I live in a fascinating country. ReplyDeleteHi there OhBoy, thanks for the visit and the comment. You are right, the place is beautiful and so very interesting. The large Bueno River that flow out of the lake is an added attraction! It has its own rapids at the start (good fishing there!)and there are boat tours down the river and back. So beautiful! If you ever make it here, let me know (if I'm still around then!) ReplyDeleteHi ddraig, you are correct, this is a beautiful place to go camping! And no, there are positively no bears! Have I mentioned that Chile is like Paradise? You can find everything in one place, like the Ranco. There are difficulties, of course, this is a developing nation,and for a visitor from a developed country things seem to be done in a weird way, because the cosmic vision is different, especially where there is still a high quota of the indigenous people still around. But the camping would work quite well, family and all! Maybe some of the readers of this blog will eventually come on a visit! Thanks for the comment and have a nice day!

The food is good, the scenery is fantastic, the people are generally nice, except maybe in Santiago, the capital! (They suffer from centralism) There is a lot to visit and to do here! I've lived here all my life, except for a couple of years elsewhere, and I know I would always come back to Chile if I left again. So don't give up, and try to come! I learned spanish for an 18 month religious assignment in Argentina and now I am afraid I am losing it because I never get to practice it! Hi Bonnie, welcome to my blog! I was very happy to read your comment, because that is exactly what this blog is supposed to do, cross the bridge between English and Spanish! I haven't extended the Spanish part too much, because in Spanish America there is more interest in learning English, but if followers wanting more Spanish become more numerous, I could redesign this, either separating or extendidng the Spanish. As it is now, it will still suit your purpose, so welcome again! Happy to have you follow!
